More Gamers Can Install Windows 11 24H2 After Microsoft Semi-Lifts Update Block
Microsoft’s journey with Windows 11 has been anything but straightforward, facing a myriad of challenges that have hindered users from accessing the latest updates. Among the most affected groups are gamers, particularly those who indulge in Ubisoft titles. Recent developments, however, bring a glimmer of hope as Microsoft has begun to ease some of the update blocks, allowing more gamers to embrace the new features of Windows 11 24H2.
The Roadblocks
Running Windows 11, even on a system that meets all the necessary criteria, can sometimes feel like navigating a maze. Various issues have led Microsoft to impose update blocks, preventing users from enjoying the latest version of the OS. Gamers have found themselves particularly disadvantaged, with many unable to update to Windows 11 24H2 due to compatibility problems with certain Ubisoft games.
Good News for Gamers
In a positive turn of events, Microsoft has partially lifted the update block, enabling more gamers to install Windows 11 24H2. Initially, five Ubisoft games were identified as problematic: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. These issues were significant enough to warrant a blanket update block for any system with these titles installed.
Progress on Fixes
Developers have been diligently working on resolving these issues. While there are still some unresolved problems with Assassin’s Creed titles, significant progress has been made. According to a recent update on the Windows 11 release health page, temporary hotfixes have been deployed for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, mitigating the crashes but with a note of potential performance issues.

Official Statement
Microsoft’s release health page provides further details:
> “Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora are no longer affected by this issue due to temporary hotfixes deployed by Ubisoft. While these fixes mitigate the crashes, players might still experience some performance issues. For more details, see the release notes for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Title Update 1.2 and Star Wars Outlaws – Title Update 1.4.0. The safeguard hold (ID 54580160) that was previously in place for these two games has been lifted as of 12/05/2024. Note that, once these fixes are applied, it may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to be offered via Windows Update. Restarting your device might expedite the process.”
Continuing Efforts
Despite these advancements, there are still numerous update blocks in place for Windows 11 24H2. Microsoft, alongside third-party developers, is continuously working to address these issues and ensure a smoother experience for all users.
